With Early Bird Box, Early Bird becomes the first company in Sweden to offer morning delivery to around 1,600 parcel lockers across the country. Through the new Nordic Swan Ecolabelled service, developed in partnership with iBoxen, parcels are delivered alongside newspapers and other parcels using Early Bird’s existing, more sustainable delivery flows.
Parcel locker delivery continues to grow rapidly in Sweden. In the second quarter of 2025, just over one in five e-commerce parcels was delivered to a parcel locker, according to Paketindex statistics.
Rooted in more than a century of newspaper distribution, Early Bird is now introducing sustainable morning delivery to parcel lockers using existing routes alongside newspaper delivery.
All parcels delivered by Early Bird—regardless of service—are collected at the same time, while parcel locker deliveries are handled in the same flow as Early Bird’s home deliveries. This helps reduce traffic and emissions. Recipients can collect their parcels safely and securely from a parcel locker using Mobile BankID.
– By offering parcel lockers to our customers, we are making deliveries more accessible to e-commerce consumers across Sweden. The lockers are available around the clock, every day of the year, allowing recipients to collect their parcels quickly whenever it suits them best. This is a natural and exciting development of our already very strong, sustainable and much-appreciated service offering, says Lisette Hallström, CCO, and continues:
– By using our existing delivery flows, we can not only keep our climate impact down, but also offer consumers parcel locker delivery early in the morning—something unique in the market.
Early Bird Box will initially offer access to around 1,600 lockers—a total of 26,000 compartments—across around 1,000 locations nationwide. The service reaches 60 percent of Sweden’s population within one kilometre. For iBoxen, which is developing an open, carrier-independent parcel locker infrastructure, the partnership with Early Bird creates opportunities both to establish parcel lockers in new locations and expand coverage in municipalities where it already operates.
– Our parcel lockers are located close to where people live and along the routes they travel every day. Together with Early Bird, we are making it easier for more e-commerce customers to choose a fast, accessible and sustainable delivery option, says Calle Keller, CCO at iBoxen.
Early Bird Box will launch in the autumn.
